Badgers love Wasps!!
The other evening i was out checking a sett with fellow GBG commitee man John Kennett, and
as we do were chatting away about badgers, and he mentioned to me that they love to eat
Wasps.
Being a bit sceptical i said "NO WAY don't they get stung" to which John replied probably but
they love them so much they carry on, he continued to tell me stories about things he had
experienced and heard with regards to the subject, like one person saw a badger pull it's head
out of a hole plastered in Wasps, it looked about and got stuck back in without even a flinch.
I have also since heard a story about a woman who called the GBG to say i have got a badger
digging a sett in my garden can you send somebody out to inspect it, so a GBG office was sent
out only to report back to the caller that the badger had actually dug up a wasps nest and had
eaten the contents, to which she replied in so many words Blooming Heck i paid £45 to have
one of them removed last week, maybe the badger should have moved in first, I'm sure he would
have loved the chance to dig it out for her and a bit of lawn seed is cheaper than the £45.
Knowing that i found this not only amusing but interesting John telephoned me to say that a
badger had dug up and half eaten a nest on his back lawn and invited me up to have a look,
sure enough there was the proof, a nice hole on the lawn with a half eaten nest inside and bits
of chewed up nest scattered around.
I have taken a few photos for the site so people can see what it looks like see below.
